Biographical Information[edit]

Carlos Sánchez has caught in the minors and for the Panamanian national team.

He was signed by Atlanta Braves scout Luis Ortiz in July 2010 and made his pro debut with the DSL Braves in 2011, hitting .205/.353/.246. While he fielded .969 and had 10 passed balls in 44 games, he also threw out 45% of those who tried to steal off him. Moving up to the US with the 2012 GCL Braves, he batted .244/.310/.308. In 2013, he hit .250/.303/.324 for the Danville Braves, hitting his only minor league home run on the penultimate day of the season. He was the team's most-used backstop. He split 2014 between Danville (.300/.417/.500 in 7 G) and the Rome Braves (.173/.221/.222 in 25 G). He hit .222/.311/.286 in 143 minor league games, with 37 runs and 45 RBI. He fielded .978 at catcher and threw out 35% of attempted base thieves.

He went 2 for 7 with a walk, hit-by-pitch and a run in the 2017 Bolivarian Games, where he split catching with Adolfo Reina (Juan Madrigales was a third-string catcher). Panama won the Silver Medal; he did not play in the Gold Medal Game. He was 1 for 2 with a run for the Federales de Chiriquí in the 2021 Caribbean Series. In the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, he was Panama's starting catcher, going 2 for 6 with a double and a run while catching a 0.00 ERA pitching staff; Panama swept their two games to win a spot in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, their first World Baseball Classic in 14 years. His hits came off Guido Monis and Juan Elorza.
