Biographical Information[edit]
Juan Elorza was on the Argentinian national team in the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. In his lone outing, he replaced Thomas Cuenca in the fifth with a 5-0 deficit against host Panama. He retired Rodrigo Orozco Jr. but then the next six batters reached: Carlos Sanchez doubled, Edgar Muñoz was plunked, Allen Córdoba hit a two-run double, Rubén Tejada smacked a RBI double, Jonathan Araúz walked and L.J. Jones singled. Carlos Gimenez took over and all three inherited runners would score, leaving Elorza with a 162.00 ERA. In the qualifiers, only Jake Rabinowitz (189.00) had a higher ERA among hurlers who got an out but six pitchers were at infinite (Kevin Townend, Kenjiro Sugiura, Keive Rojas, Ryota Okumoto, Eugene Gay and Armando Dueñas Jr.). [1] The Czechs still won a spot in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, their first World Baseball Classic.
