Biographical information[edit]
Kevin Townend pitched for South Africa in the 2004 World Junior Championship, going 0-1 with a 10.13 ERA. He also played in the 2005 Baseball World Cup, at age 18. He allowed four hits and two runs in one inning on the mound. In the 2008 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament, he faced five batters and retired only two, walking two and hitting one. He took the loss against Australia. He next pitched for South Africa in the 2019 Africa Cup Baseball Championship over a decade later; he struck out six in three hitless innings against Burkina Faso before Damon King relieved.
In the 2019 Europe/Africa Olympic Qualifier, he was one of South Africa's better pitchers (5 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 2 K, 1 R, 1 ER) with their best ERA of any qualifier. He tied Daniel Álvarez and Rob Cordemans for 6th in ERA in the event.
