Biographical Information[edit]

L.J. Jones has played in the minors and for the Panamanian national team.

Jones's high school team was ranked third nationally in 2017, when he hit .320 with nine homers. [1] He hit .312/.358/.408 as a college freshman then was medically redshirted after being hit by a pitch in his second game in 2019. He batted .327/.377/.509 in a COVID-19-shortened season. The St. Louis Cardinals picked him in the fifth round of the 2020 amateur draft.

He batted .243/.303/.371 for the 2021 Palm Beach Cardinals, backing up at first base and the corner outfield. With the Peoria Chiefs the next year, he improved to .261/.328/.449 with 33 doubles. He led the Midwest League in doubles (one ahead of Eddys Leonard) and was 8th in RBI. In the Cards chain, he was second in two-baggers (three behind Masyn Winn) and was again 8th in RBI.

As his mother was from Panama, he played for Panama in the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. [2] Starting at first base and hitting cleanup in their opener, he popped up against Argentina's Guido Monis his first at-bat and finished 1-for-8 with one run in their two games. His lone hit came off Juan Elorza of Argentina. Panama still cruised to a spot in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, their first World Baseball Classic in 14 years. [3]
