Biographical Information[edit]
Eugene Gay has pitched for the New Zealand national team.
He came to the US for junior college; he was 1-1 with three saves and a 3.28 ERA as a sophomore, fanning 31 in 24 2/3 IP. [1] Things did not go as well for him in the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, making one appearance for New Zealand. He replaced Charlie Adamson in the seventh with a 6-3 deficit. Tim Lopes walked. Leonardo Reginatto doubled, Christian Lopes singled and Lucas Rojo singled to make it 9-3. Maclain Roberts succeeded him and allowed an inherited run to score, giving Gay four runs allowed in no outs. He had the worst ERA in the qualifiers that year; Armando Dueñas Jr. also allowed four runs and retired no one but one of his runs was unearned. [2]
