Biographical Information[edit]
Maclain Roberts has pitched for the New Zealand national team.
The 18-year-old was New Zealand's youngest pitcher in the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, three months younger than Zaid Flynn. Among the position players, only Nikau Pouaka-Grego was younger. Roberts got into one of their two games, relieving Eugene Gay with a 8-3 deficit, no outs and two on in the bottom of the 7th against Brazil. He got Márcio Kikuchi to ground out, but a runner scored. Fernando Luciano doubled and he intentionally walked former major leaguer Paulo Orlando. He struck out Gabriel Maciel but plunked Vítor Ito to make it 10-3. A wild pitch scored another run, then Tim Lopes hit into a Chayton Krauss error for a 12-3 Brazil lead. Leonardo Reginatto flew out to end the inning. Todd Hatcher succeeded him in the 8th. [1]
