Delivery Man of the Year Award
The Delivery Man of the Year Award was given to the most outstanding relief pitcher in Major League Baseball at the end of each season. It was first awarded in 2005 and was discontinued after the 2013 season, with the introduction in 2014 of the Mariano Rivera Award and of the Trevor Hoffman Award. It was presented by DHL International GmbH, a shipping company.
The award was selected by a fan vote at the league's website. The ballot of 15 relievers was created by a "Yellow Ribbon" panel of experts including Hall of Fame pitcher Bruce Sutter; Lou Piniella, former manager and player; Mike Bauman, a columnist for MLB.com; Jerome Holtzman, the official MLB Historian; and Bob Watson, Vice President of On-Field Operations.
The Award suffered from competition from the more prominent Rolaids Relief Award, which was discontinued after its 2012 edition as MLB worked to create a more prominent award that would be the equivalent for relievers of the Cy Young Award.
