Biographical Information[edit]

Damon Mashore was drafted by the California Angels in the 14th round of the 1988 Amateur Draft from Clayton Valley Charter High School but opted to attend the University of Arizona instead. Three years later the Oakland Athletics took him in the 9th round of the 1991 Amateur Draft and he played in their minor league system for several years before reaching the majors in 1996. In Mashore's three major league seasons, he hit .249/.359/.359 while appearing in 185 games. Mashore completed his playing career in 2002 in the Arizona Diamondbacks minor league system.

The son of Clyde Mashore, Mashore batted .250/.323/.357 for Team USA in the 1990 Baseball World Cup. He also helped the US win a Bronze at the 1990 Goodwill Games. Damon's brother, Justin, spent eleven years in the minor leagues, reaching as high as AAA before retiring in 2001.

He played in the Puerto Rico Winter League with the Santurce Crabbers. He was born in Puerto Rico when his father was playing winter ball there, but he grew up in California.

After his playing career ended, the Diamondbacks hired Mashore as the hitting coach for the Lancaster JetHawks (2003, 2005-2006) and El Paso Diablos (2004). He spent 2007 managing the Missoula Osprey before returning to coaching with the Cedar Rapids Kernels in 2008, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in 2009-2010, and Inland Empire 66ers to start 2011. On May 31st 66er manager Tom Gamboa resigned to take care of his ailing mother and Mashore took over as manager.

Mashore then spent the next decade working as a coordinator. He started as the Los Angeles Dodgers minor league outfield and baserunning coordinator in 2012-2014 before becoming their minor league hitting coordinator from 2015-2016. In 2017, Mashore joined his brother Justin in the Texas Rangers organization as a baserunning coordinator for two years. In 2019 he became the minor league hitting coordinator for the Los Angeles Angels [1].

Mashore reached the major leagues in 2022 as the Angels' outfield and baserunning instructor. On June 14th he also was named the first base coach as part of the staff reshuffle by interim manager Phil Nevin following the firing of manager Joe Maddon. Mashore returned in this dual role in 2023, but was let go at the end of the season.
