Southern Utah was previously known as Branch Agricultural College until 1953, College of Southern Utah in 1953-1969, and Southern Utah State College in 1969-1990. The school sponsored baseball from at least 1947 until 1989 and 1991 until dropping it in 2012.
SUU competed in the Summit League 2008-2012, Mid-Continent Conference 2000-2007, as a Division-I Independent 1992-1999, and in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference 1968-1986
