Biographical Information[edit]

Clayton Carson has been a college coach. His brother Matt Carson and his mother's cousin Bill Buckner both played in the majors. He is also thus related to AAA player Jim Buckner and scout Bob Buckner (also his mother's cousins). His father was All-American in swimming and water polo.

Clayton was 2 for 9 as a freshman at Brigham Young. Redshirted, he returned to hit .326 in a part-time role in 2003. He transferred to junior college and batted .333 with 48 runs and 41 RBI in 41 games to win All-Orange Empire Conference honors. He helped the Mat-Su Miners to the Alaska Baseball League title (.241, 34 R in 40 G) and second place in the National Baseball Congress World Series (.355, 7 R, 7 RBI in 9 G). Transferring to San Diego State, he hit .288/.296/.385 in 13 games in 2005. He coached for Saddleback Community College from 2008-2011 then moved to Southern Utah University in 2012, finishing the year as head coach, but the school dropped baseball at year's end. He managed Novara to a 2-34 record in the 2016 Italian Baseball League.
