Biographical Information[edit]

Jeff Scholzen has been a player, coach and scout.

He played his collegiate baseball at Utah Valley University and Eastern Oregon University from 1988-1991. He was a three-time All-League and NAIA All-District II selection in his final season.

After signing a free agent contract with the California Angels in 1991, Scholzen hit .236/.320/.300 in 38 games for the Pocatello Pioneers, with 10 runs and 9 RBI in 38 games. He struck out in 34 of 110 at-bats and stole 8 bases in 13 tries. He fielded .964 in 19 games in the outfield and .886 in 15 games at third base.

He was the head coach of Southern Utah University from 1994-1997, coaching Ryan Jensen. From 1999-2010, he scouted for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, signing Mitchell Arnold, Efren Navarro, Donn Roach and Brandon Wood. He also coached for the Orem Owlz in 2005 and 2007, winning the Pioneer League Championship in both seasons. He then moved to the Milwaukee Brewers as a scout, from 2011-2020, signing Tyler Wagner, Payton Henry, Ryan Aguilar, Paxton Schultz and Dylan File.

Starting in 2020, Scholzen has worked for Prep Baseball Report, as the state director of Utah in setting up and executing player events, while writing online content, to market players for college and professional baseball opportunities.
