Biographical Information[edit]

Chung-yeon Choi has pitched in the Korea Baseball Organization and for the South Korean national team.

Choi was 1-0 with a 3.75 ERA in the 2015 U-18 Baseball World Cup as South Korea got the Bronze. [1] was the first-round pick of the Samsung Lions in the 2016 KBO draft. [2] He was 0-2 with a 12.91 ERA and 11 walks in 7 2/3 IP as a rookie in 2016. In 2017, he went 3-8 with a 7.61 ERA and 1.88 WHIP. He made strides in 2018, going 2-6 with 8 saves and a 3.60 ERA in 70 games, with 101 K to 26 BB in 95 IP. He was second in the league in games pitched, two behind Hyoun-taek Oh.

He made South Korea's squad for the 2018 Asian Games and pitched twice, against South Korea's top two rivals, on their way to a Gold. In their only loss, 2-1 to Taiwan, he relieved Hyeon-jong Yang in the 7th with a 2-1 deficit. He struck out Chien-Ming Chiang and Chia-Yu Lin, got Tzu-Hsien Chan on a fly and whiffed Wei-Chih Chen before Jui-Mu Chen singled. Woo-ram Jung then took over. Versus Japan, he relieved Yong-chan Lee with two outs in the 6th, one on and a 5-1 lead. He struck out Michiori Okabe. In the 7th, he went 1-2-3 against Tsuyoshi Tamura, Momotaro Matsumoto and Ryo Kinami. After Sho Aoyagi singled to open the 8th, Deok-ju Ham relieved. South Korea would wind up with the Gold, earning Choi an exemption from military service. [3]
