Biographical Information[edit]
Akira Itokazu played for the Peruvian national team in the 2022 Bolivarian Games. He was their first reliever in the event, taking over for Ken Ishihara in the 6th inning of the opener against the title-bound Dominican national team. He entered with a 6-0 deficit and no outs, but stopped the bleeding as he went 1-2-3 against Rando Moreno, Wandherley Del Rosario and Trinitty Berroa. In the 7th, he retired Victor Luna and Josuel Chalas, allowed a single to Darlin Germán and got Randy Francisco to end it. His other outing was against Colombia; relieved Andrés Hamamoto with two on, no outs and a 5-0 deficit, he hit Rafael Romero to load the bases then got Jonathan Lozada on a liner. He walked Diover Ávila to force in a run but retired Gerson Jiménez and Jesús Posso to end the inning. He began the 6th by retiring Luis Castro and fanning Edwin Pertuz but walked Gaspar Palacio and David Lozano before Matias Miyagusuku relieved him. His 0.00 ERA was a highlight for a team with a 6.64 ERA; Hamamoto was also at 0.00, but in fewer innings. [1]
