Biographical Information[edit]

Rando Moreno peaked at AA and later played for the Dominican national team.

Moreno hit .222/.355/.265 in his pro debut for the 2011 DSL Giants, fielding .944 at short. Returning to the same team in 2012, he improved to .268/.381/.300 and stole 23 bases in 34 tries, fielding .956 at SS. In 2013, he played for the AZL Giants (.342/.403/.453 in 28 G) and Augusta GreenJackets (.353/.371/.500 in 13 G). His offensive numbers fell off in 2014 for Augusta (.197/.260/.227 in 93 G) and the San Jose Giants (.218/.274/.218 in 27 G), fielding .947 at short between the two stops. He did steal 26 bases in 35 tries. He was 6th in the Giants chain in steals, between Jesus Galindo and Randy Ortiz.

In 2015, he bounced back with the Richmond Flying Squirrels at the plate (.275/.324/.340) though his steals fell to 12 in 21 tries. He fielded .972 at short. He led Eastern League batters in sacrifice hits (21) and led the league's shortstops in assists (332). [1] He was 3 for 30 with two walks for the 2015-2016 Águilas Cibaeñas, backing up Jonathan Villar at short. In 2016, he played for San Jose (.248/.317/.288 in 32 G), Richmond (.215/.271/.271 in 47 G) and the Sacramento River Cats (.299/.325/.381 in 44 G). Back with the Águilas, he was a bit better (.175/.233/.250) than the prior winter.

The Monte Plata native produced at a .200/.248/.227 clip for Richmond in 2017. In 2018, he moved on to the indies, batting .305/.356/.432 for the San Rafael Pacifics with 25 steals in 26 tries and 71 runs in 80 games. He tied for second in the Pacific Association in runs and was 4th in swipes (between Dom Bethancourt and Marcus Bradley). He was 0 for 1 for the 2018-2019 Leones del Escogido. In 2019, he played for the Long Island Ducks (.219/.282/.321 in 79 G) and New Britain Bees (.245/.276/.296 in 35 G).

Rando was the starting shortstop for the Dominican Republic when they won Gold in the 2022 Bolivarian Games. He grounded out against Peru's Ken Ishihara his first time up. His first hit was a double off Venezuela's Victor Aguilar. He hit .368/.478/.474 with five runs in six games, handling 18 chances error-free. He tied for 4th in the Games in runs, tied Juan Bidau for third in hits and tied Victor Luna for 4th in assists (12). [2]
