Biographical Information[edit]
Rafael Romero has played in the minors and for the Colombian national team.
He was signed by Kansas City Royals scout Rafael Miranda in July 2015. [1] He hit .208/.269/.219 for the 2016 DSL Royals, mainly playing third base. He split 2017 between the DSL Royals (.203/.300/.228 in 28 G) and AZL Royals (.200/.276/.240 in 16 G). In 2018, he was with the Burlington Royals (.233/.303/.267 in 36 G) and Idaho Falls Chukars (3 for 4, 2B, 3 R, RBI). The next season, he again played for Burlington (.211/.302/.237 in 24 G) and Idaho Falls (2 for 12). He had hit .217/.292/.245 in 144 minor league games, fielding .911 at 3B (80 G), .952 at SS (41 G) and .977 at 2B (25 G).
Romero hit .278/.316/.333 and fielded .875 for Colombia in the 2021 U-23 Baseball World Cup, playing regularly at second for the Bronze Medal winners. [2] In the 2022 Bolivarian Games, he got a Silver, batting .250/.429/.250 with four runs and three walks in six games while handling 26 chances error-free as Colombia's shortstop. He tied for 9th in the Games in runs and tied David Lozano for the most assists, 14. [3]
