Team History[edit]

After the 2006 season, the Burlington Indians of the Appalachian League became a Kansas City Royals affiliate known as the Burlington Royals. The team's home was Burlington Athletic Park in Burlington, North Carolina. Darryl Kennedy was named as manager of the inaugural team with coaches Jon Williams and Jose Bautista.

In the minor league reorganization of 2021 they were transformed into a summer collegiate team and renamed the Burlington Sock Puppets. In 2021 under the Royals name, they were one of the four founding teams in the independent Southern Shores Pro League.
