History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

The 1997 Baltimore Orioles finished the season in first place in the AL East going wire-to-wire (first place from the first day of the season to the last). A group of talented players, the Orioles had All Stars in Roberto Alomar, Cal Ripken Jr., Brady Anderson, Randy Myers, Mike Mussina, and Jimmy Key who chose not to participate in the All Star Game. The Orioles defeated the Seattle Mariners in the ALDS, and fell to the Cleveland Indians 4 games to 2 in the ALCS. The ALCS was remarkable as all 4 losses for the Orioles came by a combined 4 runs. The season will forever be remembered for coming very close to the franchise's first World Series berth since 1983, and as the last of many great seasons before the franchise fell into a downward spiral of consecutive losing seasons and poor management.
