History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

The 1985 Chicago Cubs, coming off a division championship in 1984, got off to a hot start, but collapsed when the entire starting rotation got injured at the same time. As a result, Steve Engel, Derek Botelho, Johnny Abrego, and Reggie Patterson were given 25 starts among them.

Offensively, the team led the National League in home runs, with Ryne Sandberg leading the team with 26. Keith Moreland had 106 RBI. Sandberg stole 54 bases and Davey Lopes, in only 99 games, stole 47 bases.

Lee Smith had 33 saves. Future Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley led the team with 11 wins, appearing in 25 games.
