The 1975 California Angels started their season on a terrible power drought: through their first 20 games, they hit only 3 homers, something matched by only one other team since 1961 - the 2016 Atlanta Braves. They ended up with only 55 homers, last in the league by a wide margin (the Chicago White Sox were next worst with 94, and every other team was above 100). Only one batter made it to double figures, RF Leroy Stanton who hit 14; behind him were a couple of back-up players, Adrian Garrett and Joe Lahoud, who hit 6 each.

The lack of hitting meant that the Angels finished in last place in the AL West in spite of an excellent trio of starting pitchers: Nolan Ryan went 14-12, 3.45 but missed time with an injury; this allowed Frank Tanana (16-9, 2.62) to succeed him as the league's strikeout king, with 269; and Ed Figueroa was a solid 16-13, 2.91.
