1959 World Series (4-2)

Los Angeles Dodgers (88-68, NL) over Chicago White Sox (94-60, AL)

Introduction[edit]

In the 1959 World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Chicago White Sox, 4 games to 2, to win their first world championship since moving from Brooklyn in 1958, and only the second in team history. It was the first World Series to feature games on the West Coast, and the first without a team from New York City since 1948. The White Sox were returning to the Fall Classic for the first time since their ignominous loss i the Black Sox Scandal-tainted 1919 World Series.

Chuck Essegian hit two pinch hit home runs in the World Series. It still stands as a World Series record. It was tied in 1975 by Bernie Carbo of the Boston Red Sox.
