Biographical Information[edit]
Eddie Hurley began his umpiring career in the 1942 Canadian-American League. He then worked the Eastern League (1942-1944) and American Association (1945-1946). Hurley was an American League umpire from 1947 to 1965. He was part of the umpiring crew for the World Series four times, in 1949, 1953, 1959 and 1965. He retired at the end of the last of these because at the time, league rules mandated that umpires retire at the age of 55. He then worked as a scout for the Minnesota Twins in 1966 and as traveling secretary for the Kansas City Athletics in 1967. He died in 1969.
