Biographical Information[edit]

Vladimir Pérez pitched in the minors for 14 years, five in AAA. He pitched over 400 games. He is the brother of major leaguers Pascual Pérez, Melido Pérez and Carlos Pérez and minor leaguers Dario Pérez and Valerio Pérez.

Vladimir debuted as a pro in 1987, going 3-2 with 5 saves and a 4.36 ERA in a team-high 46 outings for the Spartanburg Phillies. He then moved to the New York Mets chain in a trade with Shawn Barton for Bill Almon. He was 6-5 with a 4.62 ERA for the Little Falls Mets in the summer of '88. He spent 1989 with the Columbia Mets, going 3-5 with 5 saves and a 2.99 ERA. In 1990, he split time between the St. Lucie Mets (2-2, 5 Sv, 3.44, 41 K in 36 2/3 IP) and Jackson Mets (2-1, 2.20 in 26 G). With the San Francisco Giants system in 1991, he went 1-1 with a save and a 3.35 ERA for the Shreveport Captains.

Still only 23 years old, he split 1992 between the Baseball City Royals (3-3, 4 Sv, 1.98, 23 H in 36 1/3 IP) and Memphis Chicks (3-3, Sv, 2.57). He was 4th in the Kansas City Royals chain with 52 games pitched, behind Ed Puig, Mike Roesler and Dan Miceli. He signed with Taiwan's Mercuries Tigers for 1993 but the contract was voided; he spent that summer with Memphis, going 1-1 with 3 saves and a 3.00 ERA in 18 games. In '94, he pitched three games for Memphis, allowing 3 runs in 5 1/3 IP.

During 1995, Vladimir pitched for the Saskatoon Riot (1-2, 6 Sv, 4.96 in his final US action), Mexico's Reynosa Broncos (1-1, 6 Sv, 2.82) and Taiwan's Uni-President Lions (1 1/3 IP, no runs). He spent 1996 with the Monclova Steelers and Rieleros de Aguascalientes, going 8-5 with 10 saves and a 2.59 ERA in 55 games. He led the Mexican League in pitching appearances. In '97, still just 28, he was 3-3 with a save and a 4.58 ERA between Aguascalientes and the Saraperos de Saltillo. During the 1998 campaign, he went 7-3 with 14 saves and a 3.05 ERA for Saltillo. He wrapped up in 1999 with the Dos Laredos Tecolotes and Oaxaca Guerreros (0-3, 6.49).
