Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference

From BR Bullpen

The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference is an NCAA Division-III conference in Colorado, Texas, and Louisiana, although Colorado College is the one school which does not compete in baseball.

The conference had formerly spread from Colorado to Georgia and from Texas to Indiana, making it one of the most geographically widespread non-scholarship athletic conferences in the United States.

Unlike many Division III conferences, where geography is the primary determining factor for membership, the SCAC is made up of private institutions where the primary focus is on academics. However, in June 2011, seven schools, Birmingham-Southern College, Centre College, Millsaps College, Oglethorpe University, Rhodes College, Sewanee: The University of the South, and Hendrix College announced they would be leaving to form a new conference (along with Berry College) called the Southern Athletic Association. One of the major reasons cited was travel costs and a desire to form a more compact conference.

In September 2011 Centenary College of Louisiana accepted an invitation to join the SCAC in the 2012-2013 school year, then in January and February of 2012, Schreiner University and Texas Lutheran University accepted invitations to join in the 2013-2014 school year.

The SCAC was founded in 1962, and prior to 1991 the conference was known as the College Athletic Conference.
