The Coast to Coast Athletic Conference was formed in 2020-2021 from the merger of the Capital Athletic Conference and the American Collegiate Athletic Association. The Capital Athletic Conference was a Division-III conference in the states of Maryland and Virginia formed in 1989-1990. The conference had experienced many defections in the late 2010's and looked to the American Collegiate Athletic Association to keep the conference viable. The ACAA, like the resulting merged conference, was spread across the country from California to Maine, and as a result had no regular season competition, relying only on post-season tournaments for NCAA championship berths. All 5 of the schools in the initial baseball lineup came from the CAC. Former ACAA members Pine Manor College and Finlandia University were full CCAC members, but their baseball programs played as independent and WIAC respectively. With only 3 schools sponsoring baseball, the conference is close to losing NCAA championship bids as of 2023.
