Louisiana is located in the southeastern United States, on the Gulf of Mexico and around the Mississippi River and its delta. The only major league teams to have been based in Louisiana were part of the Negro Leagues, albeit for short periods only. There were proposals to move major league games to New Orleans, LA after the opening of the Louisiana Superdome in the mid-1970s, but these never came through, and the city has never been seriously considered as a possible expansion site.
There is a long tradition of minor league baseball in the state, with AA and AAA teams having been based in New Orleans, the capital Baton Rouge, LA and Shreveport, LA at various times. At lower levels, the Louisiana State League and Evangeline League were both based around the state.
