Biographical Information[edit]

Shih-Ming Huang was a 4-time All-Star in the CPBL.

Huang represented Taiwan in the 1984 World Junior Championship, 1987 World Port Tournament and 1989 World Port Tournament. The Mercuries Tigers signed him when they were founded, and Huang hit .331/.380/.500 in his rookie year. On March 24, he crushed the first walk-off home run in CPBL history (though the stupid term walk-off was not yet invented), off Yung-Chang Chang of the Brother Elephants. Huang was also selected into the 1990 CPBL All-Star Games, and he was 1-for-9. He was 4th in batting (.011 behind Kuang-Hui Wang) and 9th in hits (24 behind I-Tseng Lin).

The Hsinchu native slumped to .257/.289/.394 in 1991, and he was 1-for-6 in the 1991 CPBL All-Star Game. He attended the All-Star Game again in the next summer, and he was 1-for-6. However, Huang's batting line fell to .225/.248/.351 in 1992 due to injuries, and he hit .278/.364/.415 in 1993. He was selected into the All-Star Game for the last time of his career, and he was 0-for-2. After hitting .146/.245/.171 in 1994, the Tigers released him.

The Elephants picked him up, and Huang hit .247/.296/.313 in 1995. He only had 6 appearances in 1996, then he jumped to the Taipei Gida of the TML. Huang came back in 1997, hitting .303/.352/.432 with 23 doubles. He also became the first local player to crush 2 homers in a game, doing so on August 9. However, he struggled in 1998 as he hit .197/.265/.328, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Huang hit .274/.328/.401 with 363 hits, 84 doubles and 24 homers in 9 seasons in the CPBL and the TML.
