Biographical Information[edit]

Yung-Chang Chang pitched in the CPBL for 6 years.

Chang was signed by the Brother Elephants when they were founded in 1990, and he was named the starter of the first professional game in Taiwan. He started against the Uni-President Lions, and he recorded the first pitch of the CPBL (a ball against Chi-Chen Tseng). Chang also allowed CPBL’s first hit to Jung-Tai Sung and first homer to Chun-Liang Wang. He ended up 3-8 with a 4.69 ERA in the 1990 season, and he was 9th in strikeouts (between Yi-Sung Chen and Kuang-Chi Huang).

The Kaohsiung native went 6-6 with a 4.41 ERA in 1991, and he was 3-2 with a 4.09 ERA in 1992. He slumped to 2-3 with a 5.02 ERA in 1993, and he was named the starter of the 1993 Taiwan Series Game 6. He pitched 2 2/3 shutout innings, and he got his only title as the Elephants beat the Lions. Due to injuries, Chang only pitched 4 more games with the big club until he announced his retirement in 1996. He then became the pitching coach for the Elephants from 1997 to 1998.

Overall, Chang was 14-19 with a 4.76 ERA, pitched 268 2/3 innings and struck out 132 in 6 seasons in the CPBL.
