Scott Nichols played as high as AAA then became a scout,

Nichols was undrafted out of college. He signed with the St. Louis Cardinals and went 4 for 20 with a triple for the 1985 Erie Cardinals. In 1986, he hit .217/.329/.317 for the St. Petersburg Cardinals, with 10 passed balls in 43 games behind the plate. He improved to .236/.377/.356 with 58 walks and a career-high 6 homers for the 1987 Savannah Cardinals, appearing in the outfield, at 1B, C, 2B and 3B in a utility role.

In '88, Scott batted .217/.310/.310 for the Springfield Cardinals, backing up Ed Fulton at catcher and Rod Brewer at 1B. He split 1989 between St. Petersburg (.198/.314/.291 in 35 G) and the Arkansas Travelers (.240/.322/.260 in 20 G). In 1990, he played for Arkansas (.157/.279/.157 in 43 G) and the Louisville Redbirds (.143/.229/.159 in 27 G) in his worst year. In 1991, he hit .222/.391/.444 in 28 games for Louisville, backing up Ray Stephens and Fulton at catcher. Overall, he had hit .210/.328/.300 in 377 minor league games, with 123 runs, 104 RBI, 158 walks and 15 homers. He showed good speed for a catcher, with 17 steals in 21 tries.

Nichols remained with the Cardinals organization until 2007, working as a scout. He signed Colby Rasmus, P.J. Walters, Jarrett Hoffpauir, Brandon Dickson and Mark Hamilton. He then moved to the Kansas City Royals for a couple years, signing Louis Coleman and Johnny Giavotella. Nichols then became a private hitting coach and designed the Lock and Load Swingmaster to help people practice their swing. He scouted for the New York Mets, signing Chase Bradford.
