Biographical Information[edit]

P. J. Walters was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 11th round of the 2006 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Scott Nichols and made his pro debut that summer.

Walters made his major league debut with the Cardinals on April 17, 2009, as the starting pitcher facing the Chicago Cubs; he gave up 3 runs in 4 innings but was not involved in the decision. He had been recalled from the minors a day earlier when Chris Carpenter was placed on the disabled list.

The first two times Walters faced Carlos Lee, Lee hit a grand slam off him. Elias Sports Bureau reported that this was the first time such a feat had happened since at least 1950.

On July 27, 2011 Walters was traded by the Cardinals with Trever Miller, Colby Rasmus and Brian Tallet to the Toronto Blue Jays for Octavio Dotel, Edwin Jackson, Corey Patterson, Marc Rzepczynski and cash. He became a free agent in September, and signed with the Minnesota Twins in December.
