Biographical Information[edit]

Ray Stephens attended Bradley Central High School in Cleveland, TN.

Drafted by the Cardinals in the 6th round of the 1985 amateur draft, Stephens was not a very successful minor leaguer when it came to hitting: he had a career minor league average of .238. In 1988 with the Louisville Redbirds, he batted only .189 in 115 games.

Even though he went 1 for 3 in his Major League debut on September 20, 1990, with his first Major League hit being a home run, his career never quite panned out: he hit only .133 in his rookie year (his second of 2 hits that season was a double, though). His career average ended up being .171.

The players he spent the most time teamed up with over his career were Craig Wilson and Greg Mathews, playing five seasons as a teammate of each of them.

In 1990 and 1991, he wore the number 54. In 1992, he wore 24.

He currently resides in Charleston, TN.
