Richmond Roses

From BR Bullpen

The Richmond, IN team tried their hand in the class "B" Central League in 1930 and wound up finishing in seventh place with a (63-75) record. John McCloskey was their manager. None of the Indiana teams players showed up in the leader stats and this was their only year in this particular league.

In 1946 the Roses showed up in the Ohio State League a class "D" circuit and finished in the third spot with a fine 76-63 record, placing them six games back. However, The Zanesville Dodgers beat them quickly in the play-offs 4 games to 0. Merle Settlemire was the teams manager. Again there were no Richmond boys in the high stats, however they placed their first baseman, John Joslin on the All-Star team.

In 1947 the team faltered a bit, finishing fifth with a 62-72 record 24 1/2 games behind. Rex Carr was their manager and they had one Rose in the stats as Robert Verrier led the league in runs scored with 127. In 1948 the team would join the Ohio-Indiana League.

The league change did not help the Richmond team that well, as their first year record showed a sixth place finish with a 64-75 record. Ollie Byers was the teams manager and he was chosen to co-manage the All-Star team.

In 1949 the team would become affiliated with the Detroit Tigers and would be called the Richmond Tigers.
