Richmond Tigers

From BR Bullpen

Formerly the Richmond Roses, the new Richmond Tigers did not accomplish much more than their predecessors, as they finished with a 65-73 record, 15 1/2 games back and in a seventh place finish. Cyril Pfeifer started out as the team's manager and Ken Holtcamp took over on August 13. There were no players listed in the high stats.

The Richmond boys picked up some real steam over the winter and moved up to the league's third spot with a 80-58 record. Ralph DiLullo and Holtcamp split the managing job and the team had Keith Jones (140 runs scored) and Daniel Searle came in with a 2.12 ERA. Also, not known then, a future hall of famer was on the pitching staff (Jim Bunning), backed up by another young man to make a name, Billy Hoeft. His record for the year was not enough to qualify for the stat leaders but it was an astounding 10-1 record with a 1.71 ERA. 1950 was a little different year for Richmond. The Newark Yankees spoiled the good times by beating Richmond, 3 games to 2 in the playoffs.

To make a long story short, 1951 was the league's last year. They started with only five teams and finished with four. The Tigers had an overall 53-74 record with DeLullo at the helm and no one made the stat sheet.

Richmond would not see professional ball again until 1995, when the Frontier League hit town.
