Biographical Information[edit]
Omar Carrizales peaked at AAA then played for the Venezuelan national team.
He signed originally with the Colorado Rockies in October 2012. [1] He hit .302/.355/.353 with 30 steals in 42 tries over 66 games for the 2013 DSL Rockies. He was 4th in the Dominican Summer League in swipes, between Miguel Mendez and Rodolfo Penalo. Only Juan Ciriaco had more in the Rockies chain. In 2014, he batted .307/.376/.379 for the Grand Junction Rockies but was down to 14 steals in 24 attempts. In '15, he hit .286/.333/.410 for the Asheville Tourists, legging out 7 triples. He tied for 7th in the Rockies farm system in three-baggers but led with 16 times caught stealing. He tied for 9th in the South Atlantic League in triples and was 5th in caught-stealing. He was named the SAL All-Star utility outfielder, behind Wuilmer Becerra, Herlis Rodríguez and Michael Suchy. [2]
In 2016, he was with the Modesto Nuts (.294/.336/.428 in 96 G) and Hartford Yard Goats (.250/.286/.275 in 21 G), with a combined 10 triples and 21 steals in 28 tries. He tied Raimel Tapia for the most triples by a Rockies minor leaguer, 4th-most in the California League (all 10 triples were hit with Modesto). He made his Venezuelan Winter League debut with the Tiburones de La Guaira, producing at a .252/.339/.320 clip and going 10-for-12 in steal attempts. He was third in the loop in swipes. In 2017, he hit .248/.328/.352 for Hartford, again starting in center. With the 2017-2018 Tirubones, he was at .274/.373/.315, tying Ronny Cedeño for 3rd in swipes (7) and finishing 7th in runs (36).
Carrizales slumped to .229/.290/.376 for the 2018 Yard Goats. He had a rough winter, going 7-for-39 with 6 walks and a double. The Rockies released him and the New York Yankees picked him up. He made it to AAA for five games with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and hit .222/.282/.281 between four different Yankees farm teams. They let him go as well and he signed with the independent [[Kansas City T-Bones, hitting .268/.305/.393 in 14 contests there. He was at .322/.388/.414 for the 2019-2020 Tiburones. They then dealt him with Andrés Guerra to the Bravos de Margarita for Daniel Mayora. [3]
He struggled in two winters with the Bravos (.162/.244/.243 in 16 G in 2020-2021 and .191/.227/.405 in 33 games in 2021-2022). He was with Venezuela for the 2023 Pan American Games. Debuting versus Brazil, he grounded out his first time up, against Felipe Natel but singled off him the next time. He was 3-for-6 with a run for the event, while splitting left with Eduardo Díaz. [4]
