Biographical Information[edit]

Ming-Hsien Lin has played outfield for the Brother Elephants for a decade.

Lin represented Taiwan in the 1998 Baseball World Cup, hitting .286/.333/.286 as a backup corner outfielder and pinch-hitter. He was signed by the Brother Elephants in 1999 and debuted with them that year, hitting .282/.363/.384 and stole 19 bases in 21 tries. In 2000, he hit .282/.360/.314 with 19 bases in 26 attempts. Lin was 6th in batting (.072 behind Chung-Yi Huang), 10th in hits (37 behind Huang) and 4th in steals (23 behind Kan-Lin Huang). He made the Best Ten as one of the top three outfielders in the league.

Lin's batting line in 2001 was .305/.361/.446. He finished 3rd in the CPBL in average, behind Min-Ching Luo and Sung-Hsien Yang. He again made the Best Ten, and he also led the league with 9 triples. Lin hit .375/.375/.500 in the 2001 Taiwan Series, and he won his first Taiwan Series title as the Brothers beat the Uni-President Lions in 7 games. In 2002, he hit .261/.331/.375. Lin led the league in triples with 10, and he was the first local player to collect 10 triples in a season. He was 2-for-14 in the 2002 Taiwan Series, and the Elephants swept the Chinatrust Whales.

The Tainan native followed with a .273/.337/.360 rate in 2003. Lin attended the 2003 CPBL All-Star Game, and he was 2-for-2. He then hit .250/.324/.322 with 17 steals in 26 tries in 2004. He was 1 for 4 in 2005, missing most of the season due to ligament injury. In 2006, Ming-Hsien hit .348/.348/.391 in 11 games while still rehabbing. He was back to regular action in 2007 and batted .322/.389/.385. Lin slumped to .203/.292/.216 in 2009 with 8 steals in 9 attempts. He was 2-for-8 with a homer in the 2008 Taiwan Series, but the Elephants lost to the Lions in 7 games. Lin fractured his right knee in a spring training session in 2009 which required surgery, and he decided to retired after that season. He served as defense coach from 2009 to 2013, 2014 to 2016, 2019 to 2020, and head coach from 2013 to 2014 for the Brother Elephants and CTBC Brothers.

Overall, Lin has hit .275/.347/.362 in 601 games with 566 hits, 31 triples and 98 steals in ten seasons in the CPBL. As of 2023, he ranked 14th in triples (35 behind Chih-Hao Chang) and 30th in steals (197 behind Kan-Lin Huang).
