Biographical Information[edit]
Min-sik Kim has been a catcher in the Korea Baseball Organization.
Kim represented South Korea in the 2010 Intercontinental Cup, going 2-for-5 with a walk and a run as a backup at DH to fellow catcher Jae-hwan Kim. The SK Wyverns selected him in the second round of the 2012 KBO draft, and he stayed in the minors in his first season. He then spent the next two years in the military (winning Silver in the 2013 East Asian Games as well), and he was 4-for-24 in 2015 after returning. Kim was traded to the KIA Tigers with Myung-ki Lee, Jung-min Choi and Gwan-hyun Roh for Jeong-woo Yoon, Soo-kwang Noh, Hong-ku Lee and Seong-woo Lee in the middle of the 2016 season, and he ended up hitting .222/.283/.293 in that season. Kim was 2-for-12 in the 2017 Korean Series, and the Tigers beat the Doosan Bears in 5 games.
The Changwon native improved to .245/.333/.352 in 2018, and he was selected into the 2018 KBO All-Star Game; his defense was terrible though. Kim then slumped to .167/.293/.188 in 2019, and he lost his starting spot. He was used as the regular battery partner of Joe Wieland after the All-Star break. Kim bounced back at a .251/.310/.318 batting line in 2020, and he played 100 games with a .220/.336/.288 batting line in 2021. He was then traded to the SSG Landers for Seok-jin Im and Sa-yun Kim, and he was selected into the 2022 KBO All-Star Game. In the bottom of the 10th inning, after closer Seung-hwan Oh was injured, his team was out of relievers, so he was sent to the mound. He retired the first two hitters he faced, but Eun-won Jung then crushed a 3-run homer and Kim became the losing pitcher. He was the only position player to pitch in a KBO All-Star Game as of 2024. Kim ended up hitting .221/.321/.297 in the '22 season, and he was 2-for-8 in the 2022 Korean Series. The Landers beat the Kiwoom Heroes in 6 games.
Kim struggled at the plate again in 2023 as his batting line fell to .218/.302/.316, and he lost the competition with Ji-young Lee for the starting spot. He only played 45 games the next year, and his batting line was .208/.312/.283.
