Biographical Information[edit]

Melissa Mayeux is the sister of Dylan Mayeux. Gifted with an outstanding arm and excellent instincts at shortstop, she was the first girl admitted to the French national baseball program. In 2015, while playing with the men's U-18 national team, she made history as the first female player to be placed on Major League Baseball's international registration list to sign as an amateur free agent. She also was invited to the 2015 MLB European Elite Camp, where she worked with former major league All-Star Steve Finley and Hall of Famer Barry Larkin.

She has played with the Barracudas de Montpellier in the French Division 2. She played regularly for the Montigny-le-Bretonneux Cougars in the 2017 French Division I. While she hit only .167/.241/.167, she was not the league's lightest hitter; former French national team player Vincent Ferreira had a lower average and slugging. She fielded .927 as a middle infielder and pitched briefly (3 R in 2/3 IP). When she came to the US for college, she had to go on a softball scholarship.

In 2019, she was a member of her country's women's national team as it played in the first European Women's Championship. She picked up the save in a 4-3 win over the Netherlands in the opener, and then scored 5 runs in a 30-7 romp over Czechia later that same day, July 31st. She hit .556/.789/.778 with 13 runs and 7 RBI in the first round, going 4-for-5 in steals and fielding .958. She was third in the event leaderboards (which don't count the Gold Medal Game) in average (behind teammates Raina Hunter and Léna Sellam), 4th in slugging (between Hunter and Anouk Vergunst), 2nd in OBP (.044 behind Hunter), led in runs (3 ahead of Hunter and Sofie van de Wiel), tied Hunter and MVP Marjorie Brunel for 2nd in RBI (one behind Vergunst), tied Manon Marie for 5th with 8 total bases, led with 8 walks (one ahead of Hunter and Brunel), tied Cherise Stravers for 5th in swipes, had the only save, led in assists (12), tied Rosie Lyard for 3rd in putouts (11) and tied Floor Wessels for the most double plays turned (3). In the Gold Medal Game, she starred as well, going 2 for 3 with a double, run and a RBI in France's 5-2 win over the Netherlands, while saving it for Camille Foucher (facing the minimum in the 7th after relieving Lyard).
