Biographical Information[edit]

Madison Willan has been on the Canadian women's national team.

In 2017, she homered in an exhibition game against the USA women's team, the first over-the-fence homer ever by a Canadian women's team player. The same year, she scored 50 points in 28 games to win the Alberta Female Hockey League rookie of the year. [1] In the 2018 Women's Baseball World Cup, the 17-year-old debuted as a pinch-hitter for Canadian Baseball Hall of Famer Ashley Stephenson and drew a walk from Laura Neads. She had a bunt single off Maddison Tabrett her next time up and finished 4-for-10 with a steal, run and a RBI. In addition to backing up Stephenson at 3B, she backed up Nicole Luchanski at 2B and even pitched a game, doing okay against champion Japanese women's national team - in two innings, she walked three and allowed one run but did not give up a hit and struck out two (Nozomi Abe twice). Canada won the Bronze. [2]

She scored Canada's first goal in their run to Gold in the 2023 Universiade hockey championship, their first title in ten years. [3] Willan was a backup middle infielder in 2023 portion of the 2023-2024 Women's Baseball World Cup, backing up Alexane Fournier at SS and Ela Day-Bédard at 2B. She was 2-for-8 with a walk, hit-by-pitch, double, two runs and five RBI while handling six chances error-free. Despite not being a starter, she tied for 9th in RBI (with Marcela Diaz, Jade Gortarez, Wing-Hin Ng and Valerie Perez. [4] In the 2024 phase, she started at second for the Canadians, batting .278/.480/.389 with five walks, five runs and six RBI in six games for the Bronze Medalists, handling 26 chances without an error. She tied Kae Iwami and Naomi Ryan for 9th in runs, tied Zoe Hicks for 5th in RBI, tied Denise Perez for second in walks (one shy of Akari Hoshikawa) and led in assists (one ahead of Hicks, Alex Hugo, Iwami and Ashton Lansdell).
