Biographical Information[edit]
Alex Hugo has been on the USA women's national team.
Hugo hit 25 homers in softball at Georgia and 71 for her career, tied for 25th all-time as of 2022. [1] Transitioning to baseball, she debuted for the US in the 2018 Women's Baseball World Cup, backing up Allison Hamilton in left field. Her first time to the plate was a pinch-hitter for Megan Baltzell late in a rout of the Netherlands; she was hit by a pitch from Maaike Haak. Her lone hit was off Carla Minier of the Dominican Republic. In the Bronze Medal Game, she was 0 for 2 against Amanda Asay of Canada before Kelsie Whitmore pinch-hit for her in a US loss. She finished 1-for-7 with a walk, two times plunked and two runs, handling four putouts in left. [2]
Her next event was much better as she hit .652 with four homers and 18 RBI when Team USA won Gold in the 2019 Pan American Women's Championship; she won MVP and USA Baseball Sportswoman of the Year. [3] She was back with the US for the 2023 Women's Baseball World Cup. [4]
