Major League Scouting Bureau

The Major League Scouting Bureau, formed in 1974, is an organization that was formed to provide centralized scouting information prior to each amateur draft. Membership was originally optional but became mandatory in 1984. In 1985, it became part of the Commissioner's Office. It also includes a scouting school. A prior incarnation of the service, in the 1960s, was called the Central Scouting Bureau.

Scouts have included Jim Wilson (the first head), Bruce Andrew, Jim Baba, Billy Blitzer, Dick Bogard, Tom Bourque, Russ Bove, Dick Cole, Dan Cox, Mike Daughtry, Ralph DiLullo, Doc Gautreau, Jim Gruzdis, Randy Gumpert, Mike Hamilton, Guy Hansen, Jack Hubbard, Bo Hughes, Tim Johnson, Joe McDermott, Jethro McIntyre, Charlie Metro, Bobo Osborne, Tim Osborne, Ken Parker, Al Ronning, Bill Schmidt, Carroll Sembera, Mike Shildt, Ed Sukla, Bob Thurman, Jim Walton and Benny Zientara.

Frank Marcos served as head of the scouting bureau from 1998 until his retirement after the 2014 season. He was then replaced by former General Manager Bill Bavasi.

Prior to the 2018 season, the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau fired its last 5 remaining scouts [1].
