Biographical Information[edit]
Bill Schmidt was the scouting director for the Colorado Rockies from 2000-2011.
Schmidt was the head coach at Magnolia High School, then was an assistant coach at Santa Ana College in 1982-1984 and Arizona State University in 1985.
Schmidt was a scout for the Cincinnati Reds in 1982-1984. He coached the Billings Mustangs in 1984 and the Helena Gold Sox in 1986. He was a scout for the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau in 1987-1988 and the New York Yankees from 1988-1995 while also coaching the Oneonta Yankees in 1991-1993. He moved to the Cleveland Indians as a national crosschecker from 1995-1999, before joining the Rockies.
In April of 2021 he became acting General Manager of the Rockies following the resignation of Jeff Bridich, and was confirmed in his position on October 2nd.
