Luis Villarreal pitched as high as AAA and has appeared in Taiwan.

Villarreal was picked by the Boston Red Sox in the 20th round of the 2002 amateur draft. He made his pro debut with the Lowell Spinners, going 4-3 with a 4.45 ERA and only 14 walks in 62 2/3 IP. In 2003, he went 7-11 with a 5.17 ERA for the Augusta GreenJackets. He tied for 6th in the South Atlantic League in losses.

Let go by Boston, Luis bounced around a slew of independent league teams for the next three years. He pitched in 2004 for the Joliet Jackhammers (0-1, 4.88), Springfield/Ozark Ducks (6-3, 3.95) and Windy City Thunderbolts (0-2, 3.38). In 2005, he was with the St. Paul Saints (3-1, 3.96) and Joliet (6-6, 3.75). The Texan lefty split 2006 between Joliet (4-5, 2.76) and the Winnipeg Goldeyes (2-0, 2.38).

In 2007, Villarreal was in the indies with St. Paul (3-0, 2.52, 28 K in 25 IP) but also returned to Organized Baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies chain (0-4, 5.21 for the Clearwater Threshers) and Milwaukee Brewers organization (1-1, 6.75 with the Huntsville Stars, one run in 4 2/3 IP for the Nashville Sounds.

Luis split 2008 between St. Paul (4-5, 3.06) and the Saraperos de Saltillo (13 R in 20 1/3 IP) in the Mexican League. In '09, he was with the Kansas City T-Bones (5-3, 3.07) and West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (6 R in 5 1/3 IP).

After having pitched for 13 teams in his first eight seasons, Villarreal signed with the La New Bears early in the 2010 CPBL campaign to replace the ineffective Zachary Parker. He made his Taiwanese debut on April 10. After 3 scoreless innings versus the Uni-President Lions, he fell apart with five runs in the fourth to take the loss. For the season, he was 6-8 with two saves and a 2.89 ERA in 14 starts and 21 relief appearances.
