Biographical Information[edit]

Logan Grigsby has pitched in Germany, Australia and Italy and for the German national team.

Grigsby was 5-0 as a high school senior and also was the school's captain in soccer. [1] He was a pinch-runner and relief pitcher as a college freshman, then was 10 for 11 in steals playing regularly as a sophomore. His junior year, he had a 3.00 ERA and nearly a K per IP. [2] As a senior, he fell to 3-3, 8.94. [3]

As his mother was German-born, he was able to play in Germany without counting as a foreign player against roster limits. [4] Signing with the Heidenheim Heideköpfe, he appeared in the 2018 European Champions Cup, losing to the Rouen Huskies and Yoann Vaugelade (3 R, 2 ER, 4 H, 4 BB in 4 IP). [5] In the '18 Bundesliga-1, he was 3-1 with a 3.65 ERA, fanning 47 but walking 44 in 49 1/3 IP. He led the league in walks and hit batsmen (15). His .202 opponent average was 2nd-best behind Michael Click. He was 5th in opponent slugging, between Clayton Freimuth and Jan Tomek. In the playoffs, he allowed seven runs (six earned) in 5 1/3 IP. [6]

In the 2019 CEB Cup, he allowed one hit (to Yauheni Karalevitch) and fanned ten in a five-inning mercy rule shutout of Minsk. Heidenheim swept the Cup with five straight shutouts. [7] 2019 Bundesliga-1 stats are unavailable (as of 11/26/2020). He then made Germany's team for the 2019 European Championship, again helped by his German roots. He made two appearances. Against Israel, he relieved Enorbel Márquez in the 6th with a 2-1 lead. He walked Danny Valencia but retired Nick Rickles and Ty Kelly. After a wild pitch, he fanned Simon Rosenbaum. In the 7th, Rob Paller reached on an error and Zach Penprase hit into a force. Jeremy Wolf then struck out, Penprase getting caught stealing on the double play. He opened the 8th by walking Mitch Glasser; Maurice Wilhelm took over but Glasser would score the tying run. His other outing was against the Czech national team. He relieved Julius Spann in the 6th with a 4-2 deficit. He walked Martin Mužík and Tomáš Juněc. Petr Zýma bunted the runners over then Adam Hajtmar singled in a pair and his brother Jakub Hajtmar had a bunt hit. Grigsby retired Martin Schneider but Matěj Hejma hit a 3-run bomb to make it a 5-run frame. Grigsby struck out Martin Červenka. After Germany got three in the bottom of the inning to close it to 11-5, Petr Čech opened the 7th with a double. Mužík grounded him over and a passed ball let in a run. Juněc walked, Zýma struck out and Adam Hajtmar singled, but Jakub Hajtmar grounded out. Eric Brenk relieved in the 8th. Only Lukas Steinlein had a higher ERA in the 2019 Euros for Germany. [8]

The right-hander pitched in the Greater Brisbane League in 2019-2020. [9] He signed with Nettuno for 2020, allowing three runs and retiring none in the Serie A2 minors. [10]
