Biographical Information

Clayton Freimuth has pitched in Germany and Australia.

Freimuth was 1-1 with a 4.24 ERA at Trinity University in 2010-2011, missed two years and pitched briefly in 2013-2014. He transferred to Frostburg State and helped them make the 2015 Division III College World Series, posting a 1.91 ERA for the season.

He then went to Germany in 2016, signing with the Bad Homburg Hornets. He was 2-10 with a 4.57 ERA but struck out 101 in 86 2/3 IP. He was among the Bundesliga-1 south leaders in strikeouts (2nd, 2 behind Kevin Trisl), losses (tied for 1st), innings (5th, between Eric Massingham and Wes Roemer), walks (46, tied Hagen Rätz for 3rd), wild pitches (11, 4th) and K/9 (5th, between Mike Bolsenbroek and Justin Erasmus).

In 2017, he moved to the Heidenheim Heideköpfe and fared much better at 5-2, 2.47 with six saves. He was 5th in ERA (between Riley Barr and Tim Stahlmann), 2nd in K again (95, 83 behind future major league call-up Ryan Bollinger), wins (tied for 8th), saves (1st, double runner-up Lennard Stöcklin), K/IP (1.74, 1st, .06 ahead of Bollinger), WHIP (.097, 4th, between Barr and Stahlmann), opponent average (.180, 3rd, trailing Bollinger and Gianfranco Rizzo) and opponent OPS (483, 2nd, 124 points behind Bollinger). In the playoffs, he was 5-1 with 4 saves and a 1.66 ERA as Heidenheim won the German title.

The lefty was 3-3 with a 6.70 ERA for the Sydney Blue Sox in the 2017-2018 Australian Baseball League. In the 2018 European Champions Cup, he had a 4.50 ERA in three outings and saved Pete Sikaras's upset win over ASD Rimini. He tied for the event lead in saves and only Kevin Kelly pitched more games. He was 6-0 with a save and a 3.29 ERA for Heidenheim in the 2018 regular season. He was 8th in ERA, tied R.J. Hively for 9th in strikeouts (68), tied for 5th in wins, led in K/IP again (1.66, .02 ahead of Michael Click), 9th in WHIP (1.32, between Rizzo and Jan Tomek) and 4th in opponent OPS (611).

As he had a German passport , he was eligible to play for the German national team. He made their squad for the 2018 Super6. He pitched in one game, a 7-6 loss to Belgium. Relieving Sascha Koch with a 3-2 deficit in the 6th, two on and one out, he allowed a double to Dennis De Quint and a single to Stephen De Lannoy. Robin Roevens singled as well but he recovered to fan Jamie Verheyleweghen and get Tim Veraghtert on a grounder. In the 6th, he whiffed Yves Poesmans and Leonel Reina Viant and Benjamin Dille popped out. In the 7th, he struck out Thomas De Wolf but De Quint and De Lannoy again got hits off him. Roevens grounded out but Verheylweghen hit a two-run single and Maurice Wilhelm relieved.
