Biographical Information[edit]
Kris Detmers was a minor league pitcher for 6 seasons in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. He was drafted in the 22nd round of the 1993 Amateur Draft, one round after they took Armando Almanza. He was 5-7 with a 3.39 ERA the next summer for the Madison Hatters; given the break, one presumes he may have been a draft-and-follow pick. Moving up to the St. Petersburg Cardinals in 1995, he posted a 10-9, 3.25 record. He tied Blake Stein for third in the Cards chain in wins.
He was in AA with the Arkansas Travelers in 1996, going 12-8 with a 3.35 ERA. He tied José Jimenez and Matt Morris for 4th in wins by a St. Louis farmhand. He also tied Morris and Keith Foulke for second in the Texas League in wins, one behind Jonathan Johnson. He was also 6th in ERA, between Eric Weaver and Doug Simons. Arkansas had four of the TL's top ten in ERA; he was third in the group, behind Manny Aybar and Brady Raggio and ahead of Morris. He slumped in 1997, split between Arkansas (5-7, 5.77 in 15 G) and the Louisville Redbirds (3-3, 7.20 in 10 G in his AAA debut). He was 9-10 with a 4.92 ERA for Arkansas in 1998. He tied for 10th in the TL in victories and tied for 5th in losses.
Detmers was 6-8 with a 5.10 ERA for the Memphis Redbirds in 1999, spending a full season at AAA. He moved to the independent leagues in 2000, going 4-2 with a 3.56 ERA for the Springfield Capitals.
He is the father of major league pitcher Reid Detmers.
