Biographical Information[edit]

Blake Stein had a relatively undistinguished major league career, going 21-28 over 5 seasons with a career-high of 8 wins with the Kansas City Royals in 2000. He was involved in a couple of big trades however, being one of the three players sent by the St. Louis Cardinals to the Oakland Athletics in return for Mark McGwire on July 31, 1997, and exactly two years later, going to the Royals with two others in return for P Kevin Appier.

On June 17, 2001, Stein struck out eight consecutive batters in a game against the Milwaukee Brewers, tying the American League record. That record stood until September 27, 2012, when Doug Fister struck out nine consecutive opponents.
