Biographical Information[edit]

Jesús Ugueto played five seasons in the minors and appeared for the Venezuelan national team. His father, Jesús Ugueto Sr., also played in the minors.

Ugueto was signed by Seattle Mariners scout Emilio Carrasquel. He debuted with the 2009 VSL Mariners, going 6 for 33 with 5 walks and a double; he had 4 errors to only two runs and one RBI. With the same club in 2010, he improved significantly, hitting .291/.344/.418. His batting line for the 2011 VSL mariners was .262/.363/.371; he had 36 walks and 38 runs in 62 games. He blossomed in a fourth stint with the VSL M's, hitting .388/.458/.554 with 72 runs in 71 games. He drew 35 walks, stole 22 bases in 30 tries and had 16 doubles, 6 triples, 6 home runs and 49 RBI. He also had 12 assists in center field. He led the Venezuelan Summer League in almost everything: average (.024 ahead of Jose Paez), OBP (.028 ahead of Paez), slugging (.018 ahead of Paez), hits (107, 16 more than Paez), runs (28 ahead of Wilmer Oberto), extra-base hits (tied with Orvin Tovar), total bases (153, 19 ahead of Paez). He tied Wilmer Oberto for 7th in doubles, was second in triples (3 behind Paez), tied for 6th in home runs, was second in RBI (four shy of Tovar) and 3rd in steals. He was an easy pick for league MVP.

He then debuted in the Venezuelan Winter League, going 0 for 2 for the 2012-2013 Cardenales de Lara. Making it stateside with the 2013 Pulaski Mariners, he produced at a .261/.299/.500 clip with 8 homers and 39 RBI in 49 games. He was third in the Appalachian League in slugging (between Sam Bates and Matt Dean), 6th in homers and tied for second in RBI (3 behind leader Mitch Nay). He played in one game for Lara that winter but did not bat. After two strong seasons in the minors, he was let go by the Mariners; he had been old for his level but had shown good production.

Ugueto played for Venezuela in the 2017 Bolivarian Games, batting .385/.429/.692 with 7 RBI in 14 plate appearances over 5 games. In the Bronze Medal game, he was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI in a 5-1 win over El Salvador. He led the event in RBI, one ahead of Jonathan Saavedra and Álvaro Noriega.
