The VSL Mariners were the Seattle Mariners' in the Venezuelan Summer League playing there from 2005 to 2014. Before the 2015 season, the Mariners announced they were shutting down their academy in Venezuela in order to concentrate all of their player development activity for Latin America at their new base in the Dominican Republic. The added a second team in the Dominican Summer League to handle the increased number of players going to the facility.
