Biographical Information[edit]
Williams Oropeza played professional baseball for a decade and later coached.
Oropeza broke in with the 1994 DSL Expos, hitting .359/.398/.535 with 17 doubles, 8 homers and 47 RBI in 62 games. He was 4th in the Dominican Summer League in batting average. He batted .231/.269/.364 for the '95 GCL Expos and fielded .883 at third base. In 1996, he played for the GCL Expos (3 for 18, BB) and Vermont Expos (.297/.308/.406), now as a first baseman. A year later, Williams put up a .233/.256/.344 line for the Cape Fear Crocs, splitting first with Andy Tracy.
Back with the Crocs in 1998, the 22-year-old hit .229/.299/.281 in a utility role. He moved to the independent leagues in '99 with the Massachusetts Mad Dogs (.236/.262/.361) and New Jersey Jackals (.189/.196/.226). In 2000, he was a catcher for the Waterbury Spirit, batting .226/.261/.274 and having 17 passed balls but throwing out 42% of attempted base-stealers.
Oropeza had 28 passed balls for the 2001 Rio Grande Valley White Wings, hitting .280/.340/.402. In '02, he improved to .304/.334/.465 as a C-1B for the White Wings. He wrapped up his playing career in 2003 with the Alexandria Aces, hitting .282/.323/.401 as a C-3B.
