Biographical Information[edit]
Jonathan Saavedra played briefly in the minor leagues. He was 1 for 6 with four walks, a triple, two runs and a time caught stealing for the 2005 AZL Royals. He helped the Panamanian national team to Gold Medals in the 2009 Bolivarian Games and 2010 Central American Games. He hit .200/.333/.200 in the 2016 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, with two runs and two RBI in four games as a starter for Panama. He had doubles off Owen Ozanich and Jonathan Mottay.
In the 2017 Bolivarian Games, he .429/.478/.523 with six RBI in five games for the Silver Medalists. He tied Eduardo Thomas Jr. for the tourney lead in hits (9) and tied Álvaro Noriega for second in RBI, one behind Jesus Ugueto. He had more hits than the entire Peruvian national team (7). In the Gold Medal game, hitting 3rd, he was Panama's top performer, going 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI in a 6-4 loss to host Colombia.
