Biographical Information[edit]

Jesús Marriaga has played in the minors and for the Colombian national team.

He was signed by Arizona Diamondbacks scouts De Jon Watson and Luis Gonzalez. [1] He split 2016 between the DSL Diamondbacks 1 and DSL Diamondbacks 2, hitting a combined .299/.391/.376 with 25 steals in 35 tries. He tied Colin Bray and Marcus Wilson for the most steals in the D'backs chain and tied Shael Mendoza and Rayneldy Rosario for 7th in the Dominican Summer League. He had 116 putouts in the outfield, 5 assists and no errors. In 2017, he hit .205/.299/.297 for the AZL Diamondbacks.

Marriaga batted .271/.351/.312 for the 2018 Missoula Osprey, going 12-for-13 in steals. He hit .240/.387/.320 for Colombia in the 2018 U-23 Baseball World Cup. [2] His batting line for the 2019 Hillsboro Hops was .244/.374/.350 and he stole 17 bases in 23 attempts, scoring 51 runs in 66 games. He led the Northwest League in runs (five ahead of Patrick Frick) and was third in swipes (after Reinaldo Ilarraza and Fernando Kelli). The 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cartagena native played for Colombia in the Americas Qualifier for the Tokyo Olympics. He was 0 for 3 with two strikeouts against Andrew Albers and Ben Onyshko of Team Canada in the opener but his teammates fared the same in a no-hit loss; his only appearance in the last two games was as a pinch-runner. [3] His time in the Arizona system done, he played for the independent Gary SouthShore RailCats and hit .284/.348/.356 with 19 steals without being caught. He donned the Colombian colors twice more that year. In the 2021 U-23 Baseball World Cup, he batted .296/.406/.519 with 4 steals in 5 tries, handling 12 putouts for the Bronze Medalists. He joined teammate Gustavo Campero and Jesus Lujano as the All-Star outfielders and tied Do-yeong Kim for 4th in steals. [4] In the junior Pan American Games, he was 1 for 10 with a walk, HBP, two runs and two RBI. [5]

He began 2022 back with Gary. He was a late addition to the Colombian team for the 2023 World Baseball Classic, replacing Tito Polo, and ended up as the starter in left field given Colombia had only three full-time outfielders on its roster.
